Some History of the Foundation Claude Monet
Claude Monet lived and painted in Giverny from 1883 to his death in 1926. he renovated the house and build the gardens.
The estate passed to his son Michel that died in 1966 from a car crash and since the gardens were neglected.
The Foundation Claude Monet was created in 1980 as the estate was declared public.
The gardens became a big success and its still beautiful and amazing today.
The Gardens
The gardens are divided into two distinctive parts:
The first part in front of the house a beautiful set of gardens and colors.
The second part ( the secret part )is of the water pools ( where the famous lilies were painted)
it was made in 1893, Monet acquired a vacant piece of land across the road which he then transformed into the famous water gardens.
Monet’s fascination for Japan made him make the water gardens with its green Japanese bridge and oriental plants.

Visitors can visit the house and enjoy the details and colors of Monet life.
